I am an associate professor in the Faculty of Education at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada specializing in postsecondary education. I hold a Doctorate of Education in Theory and Policy Studies focused on Higher Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT), as well as a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from the University of Guelph.
Prior to joining the Faculty of Education, I served as Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning at Laurier, Director of the Centre for Academic Excellence at Niagara College, Director of the Centre for Innovation in Art and Design Education at OCAD University, and as an Educational Developer in Teaching Support Services and a student affairs professional in the Learning Commons at the University of Guelph. I have previously taught courses at the University of Guelph, Brock University, and OISE/UT.
My research and practice interests focus on the study of postsecondary education and the intersections of system, institution, curriculum, faculty and student development efforts that function to enable and disable change.
I employ primarily qualitative approaches to consider the extent to which orchestrated efforts to develop policies, governance systems, programs, curriculum, resources and services support holistic faculty and student development and improve system access. In the production of practical resources and tools, my work proceeds from an analysis of the lessons that can be reliably garnered from existing research, to the generation of materials that can be used to inform daily practice in postsecondary teaching and learning. I study college and university systems and have a particular interest in professional service roles in student and academic affairs, as well as curriculum, teaching and learning in the vocations/occupations, professions and disciplines.
