I received my PhD in Sociology from York University, my MA in Sociology from the University of Windsor, and my BA in Psychology from Carleton University.
Prior to joining Laurier, I was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at York University. Before completing my doctorate, I worked for six years as a Probation Officer and a Correctional Centre Caseworker in Alberta.
My current research projects focus on women in policing (“police mothers”), police cultures, gendered violence, and security networks. My past projects centered on families and intimate relations and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Critical theorizing, discourse analysis, and other qualitative methodologies guide my research.
I employ fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students as Research Assistants for my projects from my fourth-year advanced criminological theories courses, and my MA courses in qualitative methodologies and research and professionalization. I am a member of the Graduate Program in Criminology, and I enjoy the roles of supervisor or committee member for Master of Arts theses.
