I hold a Bachelor of Music (BMus) in Piano Performance from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Music (MMus) in Organ Performance from McGill University.
I love watching the joy in my students as they begin to acquire a love of music. It is a thrill seeing their skills develop so that they can master increasing difficult pieces. I teach all levels, from beginners to advanced, including ARCT candidates.
I encourage my students to participate in events that expose them to other music students in the community and to the larger musical world, such as the Kiwanis Music Festival, Beckettfest, masterclasses offered by master teachers, and my own studio recitals. Several of my students have represented Kitchener-Waterloo at the provincial level of the Kiwanis Music Festival. I integrate a variety of musical styles into each student’s lessons so that learning music can also be fun. Many of my students have done very well in Royal Conservatory exams.
I am also the music director at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, where I conduct three choirs and am an organ recitalist. In 2008 I received an award from the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community for my work with Sing Fires of Justice, a music festival which benefits various community projects.
Although not all students will go on to pursue music or attain an advanced level, the discipline required to master an instrument will have many benefits in other areas of their lives.
