I hold a Bachelor of Music (Hons. Music Education) from Wilfrid Laurier University and am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Education (Vocal Music) at Laurier. During my time in the Faculty of Music, I studied voice with Daniel Lichti (1 year) and Daniel Cabena (3 years). I was a member of the Laurier Singers chamber choir for 4 years under the direction of Lee Willingham and had the opportunity to be involved with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in their performances of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Carmen.
I am currently the Music Director at Trinity United Church in Kitchener, where I direct the Trinity Chancel Choir and organize all music involved in worship services. I have a passion for choral singing and try to volunteer/assist as often as possible with local choirs. In the past I have studied worship music under Debbie Lou Ludolph at Martin Luther University College as well as started my own small lady’s ensemble. Currently, I am volunteering with the Inter-Mennonite Children’s Choir under the direction of Laurier Professor Carolyn Neumann VanderBurgh and will soon be volunteering with the Hamilton Children’s Choir.
I have always been passionate about singing, and love to expand my repertoire with new genres and styles. I sing in a variety of styles including classical, musical theatre, pop, and rock. I believe that everyone can sing, they just need to find the song that fits them!
I am a very student-oriented teacher and believe my role is to teach my students how to sing the music that they already love while still introducing them to genres they haven’t thought of yet. I think that through proper and safe technique we all can sing anything, and I keep that belief at the root of my teaching practice.
