I hold a Bachelor of Music (BMus) from Wilfrid Laurier University with a double major in Piano Performance and Music Education. I studied solo piano with Leslie De'Ath, and piano pedagogy with Marnie Van Weelden and Terry Kroetsch. At Laurier, I was involved in a number of ensembles and performances both as a dedicated member and a soloist. I performed Gillingham’s Concerto for Piano and Percussion Orchestra with the Laurier Percussion Ensemble in 2017, which was the first moment that I knew I wanted to be a performer. As such, I performed in various concerts and recitals in the coming years, including as a finalist in the Laurier Concerto Competition (2018) and Emerging Artists concert at the Shepherd Stage Fundraiser in Kitchener (2019).
I have a strong interest in pedagogy and creative teaching. I often incorporate improvisation, composition, varying genres of music, rhythm games, and listening activities to guide my students in the direction of becoming well-rounded musicians. I also include strategies for performance anxiety, body awareness/preventing injury, and mindful practice in my lessons.
I was a chorister in the Laurier Concert Choir for four years where I had opportunities to accompany, conduct, and manage the choir, and I was also the accompanist of Maureen Forrester Singers for a year. I had the privilege of gaining experience in chamber music for a year with a piano and winds quintet, and accompanying solo voice and instrumental performances. The diverse musical opportunities that I have participated in have helped to shape my musical career as a piano teacher.
I have been working in the office at LAMA as the Operations Coordinator since 2020.
My goal is to teach all of my students what it means to be a well-rounded musician and lifelong learner. Music is accessible to everyone, which is why it is such an important tool in building a strong community and interpersonal relationships.
