I am a pianist, accompanist and piano teacher based in Kitchener-Waterloo. I have recently completed my Doctor of Musical Arts degree (DMA) at Western University in London, Ontario where I studied with Dr. Leslie Kinton.
Prior to pursuing my doctoral degree, I also obtained a Master's degree in Piano Performance at Western studying under Gwen Beamish-MacMillan and an undergraduate degree in Piano Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University studying under Leslie De’Ath.
During my doctoral studies, I devoted my academic research and pianistic study to the music of Nikolai Kapustin (1937-2020). My final research project was titled “Musical Form and Performance Practice in the Piano Music of Nikolai Kapustin: An Analysis of Suite for Piano Op. 92”. A large part of my pianistic mission in life has been to promote the music of this genius modern composer.
Over the last decade, I have attained significant experience as an accompanist as well, having worked as a vocal studio pianist, opera rehearsal pianist, course accompanist and choir accompanist.
As a teacher I have taught privately for several years and have worked with students of all ages. I mainly provide instruction in traditional classical piano repertoire, where I guide students through the well-known RCM Certificate Program. In addition to teaching classical piano, I also have experience teaching basic jazz piano and improvisation skills.
My teaching is based on three pillars: technical development, artistic individuality and music appreciation. I aim to provide my students with a solid technical foundation and creative interpretive skills, all while building on their theoretical and harmonic knowledge. These components have played a crucial role in my own development as a pianist and musician, and it is my hope that they will benefit my students too.
