Print | PDFLaurier’s Faculty of Music has appointed Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell to a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Music Therapy effective July 1, 2021.
Mitchell, who recently completed her PhD in Music Education at the University of Western Ontario (UWO), received her Master of Music Therapy from Laurier and her Bachelor of Music, Honours Music Education from UWO. Mitchell is an associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music, with a diploma in piano performance, as well as a registered psychotherapist and a music therapist certified with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists. She has extensive experience working as a music therapist in mental health settings with individuals of all ages.
Elizabeth has been a valued member of the Faculty of Music since 2007, teaching in the undergraduate and graduate music therapy programs. Mitchell was appointed as Laurier’s Music-Therapist-in-Residence in 2017, where she supervised undergraduate and graduate student placements, developed a new music therapy program, and provided clinical services at Guelph’s Homewood Health Centre. She also collaborated with the Homewood Research Institute to advance the understanding and study of music therapy.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to continue to serve within the Faculty of Music at Laurier and in particular, to continue to work with our dynamic, creative, and dedicated music therapy students," said Mitchell. "I’m looking forward to initiating new and collaborative research opportunities to demonstrate music therapy’s impact, while seeking ways to expand the program’s reach within the broader community.”
Particularly in this past year of pandemic, Laurier has benefitted immeasurably from her contributions and stewardship stepping into larger roles in our undergraduate music therapy program, including Coordinator of the Bachelor of Music Therapy. Elizabeth will remain in this position where she will continue to foster strong relationships with students beginning their music therapy education and career.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell into our tenure-track/tenured faculty complement.
