Print | PDFWe are delighted to announce that Dr. Matthew Emery, a distinguished and highly accomplished Canadian composer has joined Wilfrid Laurier University on a one-year limited-term appointment (LTA) as an Assistant Professor in Composition. Dr. Emery's music, described by the Vancouver Sun as "writing with an honesty which enchants," has resonated globally with performances in twenty-nine countries, including venues such as the Great Wall of China, the White House, and the Musikverein.
Dr. Emery's extensive portfolio includes over forty commissions and performances by ensembles such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Chamber Choir, and the Art of Time Ensemble. His compositions have been featured on twenty-four albums, including a Juno-nominated disc. He is published by Boosey & Hawkes and G. Shirmer, Inc.
Prior to joining Wilfrid Laurier University, Dr. Emery held teaching positions at Carleton University, Western University, Concordia University of Edmonton, and the University of Toronto. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia (B.Mus), University of Toronto (M.Mus, DMA), and has received over thirty awards and prizes for his exceptional contributions to contemporary music.
