Laura MacDonald is an associate professor of accounting and holds a PhD in Management (Accounting and Organizational Behaviour) from Queen's University. As well, MacDonald has a Master of Arts (Economics) and a BComm from Queen's University. She earned her CMA designation in 1993 (CPA, 2014).
She has published articles in Accounting, Organizations and Society, the Journal of Accounting Literature, The Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and Accounting and Business Research. MacDonald is also involved in a number of professional and service activities, including acting as the Equity representative on Senate Promotion and Tenure.
MacDonald teaches Management Accounting and Management Control at the undergraduate and graduate level. She supervises independent study projects with MBA students.

MacDonald is currently studying compensation and control issues in Canadian Universities. In particular, she is examining the use of informal accounting systems in universities and their impact on control. As well, she is studying compensation of accounting professors in Ontario universities. Currently, she has two accounting history projects. She has a project examining ontology in accounting history exploring the potential of cliometrics. She is also studying the changing regulation of the accounting profession in Ontario.
