In 2021/22, Laurier received $2,800,635 from the Research Support Fund. The grant was allocated as follows:

• Research Facilities: $592,898
• Research Resources:  $395,432
• Regulatory Requirements and Accreditation: $29,736
• Management and Administration: $1,677,877
• Intellectual Property and Knowledge Mobilization: $114,692

Research Facilities

• Institutional Performance Objective: Maintain quality research space for faculty and student research.
• Indicator: Faculty and student research spaces are operational throughout the year.
• Reported Outcome: 66,367 square feet of research space maintained and operational across all Laurier.

Research Resources

• Institutional Performance Objective: Maintain the level of institutional support related to dissemination of faculty research through our institutional repository.
• Institutional Performance Indicator: The number of downloads of faculty research from the institutional repository.
• Reported Outcome: Support 573,069 downloads of faculty research from the institutional repository, a 17% increase over 2020/2021 a 20% increase over 2019/2020, a 47% increase over 2018/2019, a 56% increase over 2017/18 and an 88% increase since 2016/17.

Regulatory Requirements and Accreditation

• Institutional Performance Objective: Maintain annual reporting compliance as mandated by the Tri-Council policy statement.
• Institutional Performance Indicator: All active protocols submit the required annual report.
• Reported Outcome: Remained compliant with Tri-Council policies for Research Ethics Board.

Management and Administration of an Institution’s Research Enterprise

• Institutional Performance Objective: Continue to support Tri-Council grant applications and process Tri-Council awards.
• Institutional Performance Indicator: The number and quality of Tri-Council grant applications being submitted by Laurier faculty and the number of successful awards.
• Reported Outcome: Supported the submission grants totalling over $30 million, including 114 Tri-Council grants.  Laurier is continuing to see high success rates with a SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant success rate of 100% and NSERC Discovery Grants with a success rate of 71%, and success rates for the SSHRC Insight Grants and SSHRC Connection Grants above national average. Due to COVID-19 applications submitted were lower in certain portfolios.

Intellectual Property and Knowledge Mobilization

• Institutional Performance Objective: Maintain the level of institutional support for industry-led projects.
• Institutional Performance Indicator: The number of new industry-led projects initiated.
• Reported Outcome: Industry-led project funding secured exceeded $2 million.
