We engage in a range of initiatives that promote gender equality on our campuses and beyond, working to advance SDG 5.

Programming During 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

Laurier is committed to fostering a university culture where gender-based and sexual violence is not tolerated, and survivors are believed and supported with compassion, dignity and respect. Learn more about programming offered during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in 2022.

Laurier Celebrates International Women’s Day 2022 with Online Public Events

March 8 marked International Women’s Day, an internationally recognized day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and raise awareness about the challenges women and girls continue to face.  Learn more about the events held at Laurier in honour of International Women’s Day

Lazaridis team recognized for their research on how networks help women entrepreneurs

In September 2022, Emerald Publishing recognized a research paper from two faculty members and an alumna of the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Laurier with an Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Paper. The awards celebrate significant contributions of authors to internationally recognized journals.

Indigenous Women’s Entrepreneur Program Launches at Laurier with Dynamic Indigenous Leaders 

The Women Entrepreneurship Centre (WEC) at Laurier has been dedicated to empowering and supporting women’s success through collaborative programs since May 2020. WEC supports women entrepreneurs who are looking to start or grow their business. Sara Bingham and her team, Tabitha Curley, Erin Leroux, Angie Abrokwa-Ampadu and Hazel Harrison, have developed an amazing Indigenous Women’s Entrepreneur Program tailored to the needs of Indigenous women entrepreneurs.

Laurier Centre for Women in Science

Launched in 2012, the Laurier Centre for Women in Science is proud to champion women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The centre is building an inclusive scientific community through research, action and communication, with the ultimate goal of making its mandate redundant.

Women’s Faculty Colleagues

Women’s faculty colleagues provide support, information and events related to issues affecting female faculty members and offer direct support and advice to female faculty around equity issues. Working closely with the associate vice-president: EDI, women's faculty colleagues provide support and information to all faculty members on issues affecting women-identified faculty; act as resources to women-identified faculty to advise and assist on concerns about equity issues; and initiate activities within the university to promote discussion and understanding of issues affecting women-identified faculty. 

Women in Leadership Laurier 

Women in Leadership Laurier's primary focus is to promote equality, diversity and inclusion while fostering the continuous growth and development of female students interested in various areas of business. It aims to nurture, empower and inspire female leaders from diverse backgrounds by providing students with resources, information and support needed to succeed in today’s professional environment. The organization embraces the knowledge, expertise and experiences of industry professionals, communities and its peers to enable success without boundaries.
