Laurier series celebrating women leaders returns online for fall 2020

Waterloo – Wilfrid Laurier University’s series Elevating Laurier Leaders is returning in a virtual format this fall. The four-part series brings together accomplished Laurier alumnae committed to advancing women's leadership.  

Through these events, Laurier is establishing a strong and supportive community of women from diverse industries and backgrounds who are dedicated to supporting each other in their journeys. 

“I’m thrilled that the momentum we have been building for this event series over the last two years will be continuing in a virtual setting. The conversations we are having and the connections we are making are now even more critical for the aspiring leaders who participate in our Elevating Laurier Leaders events,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah MacLatchy. 

The first event of the series, Black Women in Leadership, will bring together a group of panelists who will share experiential knowledge and research about the diverse experiences of Black women, including how they engage in resistance within their leadership, empower other racialized women, and take responsibility for the roles they play within the broader community. 

The panel discussion will be moderated by Lauren Burrows, education and inclusion coordinator in the Centre for Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Laurier. The panel will feature Laurier alumnae Amaryllis Jones, trade marketing manager at Procter and Gamble; Cassandra Mensah, staff attorney at Day One New York; Elizabeth Clarke, front-line worker of Toronto housing and homeless supports for The Salvation Army; and Sinead Bovell, the founder of WAYE.  

“I encourage everyone to take part in this exciting initiative and to continue to make investments in themselves by expanding their professional networks and deepening their knowledge of these important and relevant topics,” said MacLatchy. 

Elevating Laurier Leaders: Black Women in Leadership will be held Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
