Laurier celebrates over 3,000 graduating students at in-person convocation ceremonies

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University will celebrate the accomplishments of 3,338 graduating students at in-person convocation ceremonies on the Brantford and Waterloo campuses.

Two Brantford campus ceremonies will take place at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts June 3. The Waterloo campus will hold 12 ceremonies at Lazaridis Hall from June 13 to 17.

The spring ceremonies will include the first graduating class of the combined Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurier and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sussex.

As of June 1, Laurier expects to confer 2,722 undergraduate degrees, 468 graduate degrees, 8 diplomas and 140 graduate diploma students, including 2,729 students from the Waterloo campus and 609 students from the Brantford campus.

The university will also host graduation celebrations for the classes of 2020 and 2021 on June 3 in Brantford and June 11 in Waterloo in addition to the celebrations that took place in April.

Five accomplished Canadians will receive an honorary degree at the Spring convocation ceremonies including:

• Izzeldin Abuelaish, doctor, educator and champion for peace in the Middle East
• Salah Bachir, philanthropist, magazine publisher and the former president of Cineplex Media
• Steven Page, singer, songwriter and founding member of the Barenaked Ladies
• Dana Sinclair, performance psychologist to professional athletes
• Carolyn Wilkins, Princeton research scholar and former senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada

Laurier will present the Order of Wilfrid Laurier University to David McMurray, former vice-president of Student Affairs, who retired in June 2020. Laurier will also present the University Research Professor award, the Faculty Awards for Service Excellence and Community Engagement and the Distinguished Governor Award at its convocation ceremonies.
