WATERLOO — With less than a week to go until Wilfrid Laurier University’s Homecoming, it is time for folks to dust off their purple and gold gear. After two years of virtual and hybrid programming, Homecoming will make a full return to Laurier’s campuses on Sept. 22 to 25 in Waterloo and Oct. 22 in Brantford, with in-person events including an alumni awards ceremony, pancake breakfast and football game in Waterloo, and a basketball game in Brantford.
“Homecoming is such a special part of the Laurier experience and it’s fantastic to see it return in person,” said Jason Coolman, vice-president: Advancement and External Relations. “It’s been long overdue, especially for our reunion classes. Homecoming weekend is a wonderful opportunity for alumni, students and the community to connect with one another and the university.”
On Sept. 24, the Wilfrid Laurier University’s Alumni Association (WLUAA) will honour the recipients of its prestigious Awards of Excellence at a morning ceremony. Outside in the Quad (weather permitting), the traditional Homecoming Pancake Breakfast will welcome back alumni, students, family and friends.
Meanwhile, on the field, the Laurier Golden Hawks football team will face the Ottawa Gee-Gees at University Stadium, with the return of the Alumni Endzone Party and the West Endzone Party during the game.
“We’re proud to welcome everyone as part of our Golden Hawk family, and we continue to work closely with our community partners to encourage safe and respectful celebrations this year,” said Coolman.
Laurier will also be welcoming back the classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972, among many others for special reunion events, most of which were postponed due to the pandemic.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, Laurier’s Brantford campus Homecoming will feature a basketball game, a reunion event for Business Technology Management alumni and other fun family activities.
