Laurier to graduate more than 1,500 students this fall

Wilfrid Laurier University is celebrating the accomplishments of more than 1,500 graduating students.

Students will receive an email on their graduation date, Nov. 3, with a video message from Eileen Mercier, Laurier’s chancellor, conferring their degrees and diplomas. Physical degrees and diplomas in special keepsake boxes will be mailed to students. Each box will contain the student’s degree or diploma, along with messages from the president and the Alumni Association, a tassel, stickers and confetti.

Students, staff and faculty members are invited to celebrate on social media on and after Nov. 3 using prepared Instagram stories, custom Zoom backgrounds, Facebook frames and gifs. Downloadable signs are also available to print and display.

Approximately 1,066 undergraduate students will graduate, along with 453 graduate students and 64 diploma students. Students from both the Waterloo campus (1,451) and Brantford campus (132) will be celebrating together.

The Class of 2020 has faced enormous disruption in their academic and personal lives as the university has done its part to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Laurier plans to host an in-person ceremony to celebrate this year’s graduates in the future when it’s safe to do so.
