Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University joins Universities Canada and universities across the country in remembering the victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, which was downed in Iran one year ago today on Jan. 8, 2020. University flags have been lowered in honour of the victims.
The tragedy had a profound impact on Canadians, including those within the higher education community. Fifty-one of the plane’s 176 passengers were employed at or studying in 23 Canadian post-secondary institutions. Laurier extends its support to our university colleagues who lost members of their community in this tragedy, including our neighbours at the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph.
On Jan. 8, Universities Canada and the Council of Ontario Universities will post messages of remembrance on their social media channels. Laurier will share the messages. All are welcome to reshare the messages or create their own to honour the lives lost and show collective support for those impacted by the tragedy.
