Laurier to offer next Master of Education program in Milton beginning spring 2022

Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Education will next offer its Master of Education program in Milton beginning in May 2022. The program, which traditionally begins in January, will now start in May to align with the Master of Education program offering at Laurier’s Waterloo campus and provide greater flexibility to students.

Laurier’s Master of Education program is offered part-time with blended and some fully remote course offerings included to accommodate professionals working in the K-12 education, postsecondary, government, corporate and community sectors. The program features small classes led by award-winning faculty members and leaders in their field who facilitate meaningful dialogue, curriculum connections and student engagement. Courses are offered each academic term, allowing students to complete the program in two years. 

Prospective students can attend a virtual information session to learn more about the program and how to submit a successful application on Oct. 20 or Nov. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is required.  

“We look forward to our third cohort of Master of Education students beginning their studies in the Milton cohort next spring,” says Maria Cantalini-Williams, dean of Laurier’s Faculty of Education. “Our graduate students are developing new understandings to nurture learning in diverse environments. I am excited for our incoming class to begin their graduate studies in education at Laurier.” 

Five of the program’s eight required courses are core offerings and cover topics including theory and practice, research in education and learning theories. Three elective courses are also required and can include education courses in mental health foundations, educational leadership and technology, or electives from Laurier’s graduate programs at other campuses.  

Required courses are scheduled to be taught in a blended format, with in-person and online elements, at the Milton Education Village. All course offerings will adhere to Laurier’s COVID-19 health and safety measures and public health guidelines.

Laurier, in partnership with the Town of Milton and Conestoga College, will welcome students to a new university campus in Milton in 2024. The campus is a key element in Laurier’s strategic multi-campus growth and will focus on planetary health, including programming, research and experiential learning opportunities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) fields. 

Application requirements 

Applicants require an undergraduate degree with a minimum B standing in their final two years of study, in addition to either a Bachelor of Education degree or two years of work experience. Four-year degrees are preferred but three-year degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
