Filming Notice for Laurier’s Brantford Campus

Dear students, staff, contract-teaching faculty, and faculty of Laurier’s Brantford campus, 

Please be aware that from now until March 11, the cast and crew from Ruby Road Productions will be in downtown Brantford, filming scenes for upcoming episodes of a television series. While this activity will have impacts on the immediate area, please note that all members of the university community will still have access to campus buildings and can conduct classes and other university business as they normally do. Pedestrians may be asked to wait briefly at certain points to allow for filming. However, the presence of this activity should not cause any excessive delays.  

The production will be filming in Victoria Park as well as the surrounding streets, including Wellington, George, Darling, and Dalhousie streets. Film crews are also expected to make use of the front stairs of the Carnegie Building.  

The film crew is currently on site preparing for filming until Feb. 28. Production is set to film from March 1 to 3 from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., with an additional day for inclement weather on March 5. The wrap up days will take place from March 5 to 11.  

A large group of cast and crew will be on site around Victoria Square to film from March 1 to 3 and you may see a large crowd of several hundred people. The film and television industry is following stringent pandemic protocols as outlined in the “Film and Television Industry Health and Safety during COVID-19" document issued by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development as well as the health and safety protocols as directed by the Province of Ontario and the Brant County Health Unit. 

Anticipated Impacts for the Laurier Community 

Parking Impacts 

• From Feb. 28 through March 4 the parking lot at Carnegie will be closed to allow for filming. During this time 36 Laurier spaces within the Wellington Square parking lot will also be unavailable as they will be used by the film production team. 
• Parking lanes on city streets will be occupied from Wellington Street (from Market to George Streets); George Street (from Nelson to Dalhousie Street); Darling Street (from Market to George Streets) and Market Street (from Nelson to Darling Streets) from Feb. 14 at 7 a.m. to Feb. 28. And again, on March 6 at 11 p.m. to March 11 at 11 p.m. for production set up and takedown. The Laurier community is encouraged to park in Laurier-designated lots or municipal parking lots during this time. 

Road Closures and Traffic 

• Various road closures on all streets around Victoria Park will take place from Feb. 21 at 11 p.m. to March 7. 
• Intermittent traffic stoppages will occur on the streets adjacent to Victoria Park as well as Dalhousie Street from March 1 to March 4. 
• Intermittent traffic stoppages will occur for pedestrians on Dalhousie and Colborne Streets at Market Street from March 1 to 4.  

Building Changes 

• Some Laurier buildings may look different than usual and Laurier signage will be taken down or covered. Students are encouraged to use the online map if they need directions.  
  • The impacted buildings include: 
  • Carnegie Building – 98 George St.  
  • Student Centre – 111 Darling St.  
  • Market Darling Centre – 67 Darling St.  
  • Odeon Building – 50 Market St.  

• During filming, a camera operator will be working from atop the front steps of the Carnegie Building. Laurier students and employees are encouraged to use the lower entrances to access the building at this time.
