Laurier Department of Languages and Literatures students perform in 'Mesmerizing' German-language play

Laurier’s Department of Languages and Literatures is proud to present Mesmerizing, a live stage performance in German taking place Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre.

At a time when mental health is of growing concern, Mesmerizing looks back at an individual considered a pioneer in the field: Franz Anton Mesmer (1734 to 1815), a German physician, the father of modern hypnotism and world-famous healer of his time. Mesmer’s name is eternalized in the English language by the verb “to mesmerize.”

Mesmerizing is the culmination of students’ study in GM220: Performance in German. Under the direction of Alexandra Zimmermann, the stage production will feature student actors from Laurier’s Department of Languages and Literatures accompanied by student musicians in Laurier’s Faculty of Music programs.

Mesmerizing will be performed at the Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre, 9 Princess St. E. in uptown Waterloo, on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and can be reserved at mesmerizingbookingswlu@gmail.com.
