Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University has appointed David McMurray as interim vice-president: student affairs. He will join the university on Feb. 1.
McMurray retired in 2020, after leading student services and affairs at Laurier for 23 years. Most recently he had served as vice-president: student affairs from 2010-2020.
McMurray is recognized across North America as a leader in student affairs. He is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for excellence in higher education, administration and student services. Since retiring from Laurier in 2020, he has been working as a consultant through his business Thinking 360, providing expertise to universities across Ontario in areas such as co-op education, experiential learning, student wellness and mental health, policy and governance, student housing and athletics.
“David’s institutional knowledge of Laurier and his successful career in student affairs make him an excellent candidate to fill the vice-president: student affairs role on an interim basis,” said Deborah MacLatchy, president and vice-chancellor. “Laurier’s exceptional student experience is due in no small part to the legacy that he left and we are thrilled to have him assume this leadership position once again on an interim basis.”
“I am absolutely delighted to return to Laurier at this time. How exciting it will be to help contribute to the exceptional learning community we know, and the special student experience we value so much,” said McMurray.
McMurray’s appointment comes following the announcement of Ivan Joseph’s retirement from the vice-president: student affairs role.
“I want to thank Ivan for his leadership and commitment to Laurier, especially to our students. He has been a valued member of our executive team, ensuring student success was at the forefront of decision making,” said MacLatchy.
Joseph’s last day at Laurier will be Feb. 2.
