Print | PDFRenovations to Alumni Field, supported by generous donors led by the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association, the Students’ Union and the Graduate Students’ Association, continue to progress.
Perimeter fencing is now complete except for the gates at multiple entry points, where there will be temporary fencing until the spring. Press box, storage and scoreboard installations will be completed by spring. A centrefield gateway feature is in progress. There will be periodic disruptions to parking around the site as this work is completed.
Laurier Athletics and Recreation will open the field for some student programming in the winter term, but it will not be maintained and snow will not be cleared because snow removal can damage the turf. The field’s grand opening is tentatively scheduled for April 2023.
“We are happy to see steady progress on the field and that we’ll be able to open the field for partial student usage this winter,” says Kate McCrae Bristol, interim director of Athletics and Recreation at Laurier. “The new field is going to be a huge benefit to Laurier students and the broader community. We are so grateful to the donors who made this possible, in particular the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association, the Students’ Union and the Graduate Students’ Association.”
The enhancements will increase the footprint of the field to FIFA-regulation size, making it more suitable for soccer, rugby and lacrosse competitions.
