Filming Notice: Explosions and other special effects will be in use

The City of Brantford is planning to host a large-scale television production in and around the areas of George St., Dalhousie St., King St. and Colborne St. from June 30 to July 13.

The filming activity will impact access to some Laurier buildings and parking lots:

• CLOSURE: The parking lot between the Student Centre and the Research and Academic Centre will be closed from June 30 to July 3. This includes all gold, reserved, accessible and carpool parking spaces. Use the interactive campus map to find alternative parking.
• CLOSURE: Rear entrance of the Student Centre to be used as a filming location and will be closed from June 30 to July 3. Students, staff and faculty will still have access to the Student Centre from the front entrance off Darling St.

Laurier signage on the Student Centre, Post House and Carnegie Building will be removed or covered and replaced with signage for the television production for the duration of filming. The Laurier community will still have access to all buildings.

Members of the Laurier community should be aware that at times during filming, there will be an array of special effects in use, including explosives, pyrotechnics, fires, simulated gunfire, mock weapons, mock officers and vehicles, drones and simulated accidents. While no filming activities are expected after 11 p.m. and before 7 a.m. on any production day, the production has applied for a noise bylaw exemption for the relocation of production vehicles.

The production’s proposed schedule is as follows:

• Pre-production and site preparation: June 30 to July 3
• Filming: July 3 to 7
• Wrap-up: July 8 to 13

In the event of a Screen Actors Guild strike, production may be delayed to the tentative dates of July 13 to 27, with primary filming July 17 to 21.

Road, sidewalk and traffic closures in the downtown include:

• CLOSURE: July 2 at 7 a.m. to July 7 at 11 p.m. for:
  • George St. from Dalhousie St. to Nelson St.
  • Darling St. from Market St. to Charlotte St.
• CLOSURE: either July 6 or 7 at 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. for one day only (weather dependant) for:
  • Dalhousie St. from Clarence St. to King St.
  • King St. from Colborne St to Wellington St.
  • Queen St. from Colborne St. to Darling St.
  • Market St. from Dalhousie St. to Darling St.
  • Charlotte St. from Colborne St. to Darling St.
  • Market St. at Wellington St.
• INTERMITTENT TRAFFIC CONTROL: Apart from the closure listed above, Dalhousie St west of Charlotte St. will have intermittent traffic control from July 2 at 7 a.m. to July 7 at 11 p.m.

Street parking closures downtown include:

• June 26 at 7 a.m. to July 13 at 11 p.m. for:
  • George St. from Dalhousie St. to Nelson St.
  • Dalhousie St. from George St. to Charlotte St. (north side)
  • Darling St. from Market St. to Charlotte St. (south side)
• July 2 at 7 a.m. to July 7 at 11 p.m. for:
  • Nelson St. from Market St to Charlotte St.
  • Wellington St. from Market St to Charlotte St.
  • Charlotte St. from Dalhousie St. to Nelson St.
  • Dalhousie St. from Market St to George. St. (2 spots total)
  • King St. from Darling St. to Dalhousie St. (5 spots total)
• Either July 6 or 7 from 10 p.m. the night before the closure to 11 p.m. the day of the closure for all spaces:
  • Darling St. from Bridge St. to Market. St.
