Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University has launched its new five-year Strategic Academic Plan (SAP): Transformative Education. Real Impact. This comprehensive plan, developed through a university-wide consultative process over the past year, was approved by the university Senate and was presented to the Board of Governors in the fall of 2023.
Aligning and integrating with other institutional and unit-level plans, including the Laurier Strategy, Strategic Research Plan, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan and Indigenous Strategic Plan, the SAP outlines a multifaceted approach to enhancing teaching, research and community engagement, positioning Laurier at the forefront of transformative education.
“In line with our vision of transformative education, the Strategic Academic Plan sets forth a framework that prioritizes student success and academic excellence while embracing inclusivity,” said Heidi Northwood, provost and vice president academic. “We are dedicated to providing a supportive environment that nurtures diverse talents and potential.”
The SAP is a collective effort and a result of collaborative work, thoughtful discussions, and invaluable feedback from across Laurier’s academic community.
The plan reflects Laurier’s commitment to addressing the evolving needs of a comprehensive multi-campus university community, which is encapsulated in its three goals: advancing transformative education; thriving comprehensive university; and integrating communities into a vibrant whole.
“Our primary aim is to foster an inclusive academic environment that equips our students with the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to thrive,” said Northwood. “This plan not only reinforces Laurier’s dedication to providing a dynamic learning environment, but also underscores our determination to prepare students for local and global challenges and opportunities.”
With these new goals and approach, the SAP will serve as a catalyst for positive change and establish Laurier as an institution for transformative education in the years to come.
