Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University’s Enactus team claimed a top-four finish at the 2023 Enactus World Cup in the Netherlands on Oct. 20 alongside Enactus teams from Australia, Tunisia and Egypt.
The top-four finish affirms Enactus Laurier’s reputation as a leader in purpose-driven innovation and entrepreneurship. Laurier’s Enactus team has represented Canada at the Enactus World Cup three times in the past four years after winning the Enactus national championship.
The Enactus World Cup brings student teams from around the world together to showcase the impact of their innovative and entrepreneurial projects. Laurier’s Enactus team was named runner-up at the global event in 2021 and 2020.
“What an incredible achievement for Laurier,” says Jonathan Newman, vice president: research. “Making it to the top four at the Enactus World Cup is a testament to the power of purpose-driven innovation and how our students are making a positive impact around the world.”
Enactus Laurier’s winning projects, Kuponya Innovations and Safi, exemplified the group’s dedication to transforming lives through entrepreneurial action. Kuponya Innovations is building affordable, sustainable and climate-resilient tiny homes in remote northern Indigenous communities. Safi has created a simple, cost-effective pasteurization device to ensure the production of safe and nutritious milk by small-scale dairy farmers in East Africa.
“We are immensely proud of the team’s exceptional dedication and hard work,” says Laura Allan, director of innovation and entrepreneurship and faculty advisor for Enactus Laurier. “The students showed tremendous entrepreneurial spirit and passion for social and environmental change to develop two innovative projects that transcend boundaries and have the potential to positively influence countless lives.”
A top-four finish at the Enactus World Cup positions Laurier’s Enactus team to expand its reach and make a greater impact on a global scale. The top four teams included Laurier (Canada), Monash University (Australia), Tunis Business School (Tunisia) and Kafr El Sheikh University (Egypt).
Enactus Laurier is committed to making a positive impact in the community and in the lives of its student team members. By joining Enactus Laurier, students are provided with a life-changing opportunity to go beyond the boundaries of school to make a real difference in the world, setting them up for lives of leadership and purpose.
