Prior to Conestoga College, Emery served as director of admissions at Toronto Metropolitan University and held a number of roles at Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, including associate registrar: admissions, director of international enrolment planning and manager of international business development and partnerships.
“I am very pleased to welcome Mike to this important leadership role at Laurier,” says Heidi Northwood, provost and vice-president: academic. “Mike’s leadership experience as a registrar and in strategic enrolment management will serve Laurier well as we build on our successes and continue our commitment to excellence in student recruitment, student services, student access and affordability at all Laurier locations.”
As AVP: enrolment services and registrar, Emery will lead a dedicated Enrolment Services team focused on service excellence to meet the needs of current and prospective students, faculty and staff. He will oversee the development and execution of Laurier’s domestic and international recruitment strategies and will work in partnership with colleagues throughout the institution on strategic enrolment management of undergraduate and graduate students.
“I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of Wilfrid Laurier University,” says Emery. “I look forward to collaborating with the faculty, staff and student community to meet the university’s strategic priorities.”
Emery will serve as an integral member of Laurier’s Vice-President: Academic Advisory Committee (VPAC); the Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) committee as well as an ex-officio member of University Senate where he will inform and support academic decision processes related to admission and academic progression. He will also engage in discussions with external partners in the secondary school system, the post-secondary education sector and government.
Emery holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Emery succeeds John Fraser, AVP: integrated budgeting and planning, who served as interim AVP: enrolment services, and Shelagh Pepper, who served as interim registrar, following Jennifer Casey’s retirement as AVP: enrolment services and registrar in June 2023.
“Thank you to John and Shelagh for their tireless leadership and support of the enrolment services team in their work to recruit and admit and support our students,” says Northwood.
