Print | PDFTimes Higher Education (THE) has ranked Wilfrid Laurier University among the top 15 per cent of global universities in its 2024 University Impact Rankings. THE assessed 2,152 universities in 125 countries that are working toward the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a strategy to address challenges including poverty and climate change.
“Through our research, teaching and partnerships, the Laurier community is working together to create a thriving future for all,” says Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah MacLatchy. “This impressive ranking affirms Laurier’s international excellence across a broad spectrum of Sustainable Development Goals.”
Laurier was celebrated for tackling climate change, fostering gender equity, and promoting peaceful and just societies. It ranked in the top 15 per cent of global universities for the following SDGs:
SDG 5: Gender equality
Efforts include 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Women in Leadership Laurier mentorship program and the Laurier Centre for Women in Science. Learn more.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the goals
Efforts include Laurier’s research partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories, the UNESCO Chair on Food, Biodiversity and Sustainability, and the Laurier Climate Change Journalism Fellowship. Learn more.
Laurier ranked in the top 20 per cent for:
SDG 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions
Efforts include the International Students Overcoming War club, the Scholars at Risk program and the Tshepo Institute for the Study of Contemporary Africa. Learn more.
And Laurier ranked in the top 25 per cent of global universities for:
SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
Efforts include the Northern Water Futures project, the Laurier Institute for Water Science and the Jarislowsky Chair in Sustainable Water Futures. Learn more.
