PhD in Management, Organizational Behaviour/Human Resources Management
Sam is a doctoral candidate in the PhD Management (OB/HRM) program. Her doctoral research is supervised by Dr. Yujie (Jessie) Zhan. Sam received her MSc in Management (OB/HRM) from the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University and a BA Honours (First class) in Psychology from the University of Calgary.
Her research interests focus on women in leadership and she examines this topic from multiple angles. In her dissertation, Sam looks at others’ perceptions of female vs. male instigated conflict and interventions to address differential effects. Her other research interests include diversity characteristics such as speaker accent, topics associated with women in leadership like the Queen Bee Phenomenon and the Glass Cliff Phenomenon, team dynamics, and conflict management. Her work has been published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Negotiation and Conflict Management Research, Group Decision and Negotiation, and Personality and Individual Differences.
Sam is also the social media coordinator for the Canadian Society of Industrial & Organizational Psychology (CSIOP). She has served on Laurier’s research ethics board and teaches several undergraduate business and psychology courses. Outside of academia Sam enjoys taking ballet class and walking her dogs.
