Positive Education applies the science of positive psychology to learning environments to enhance well-being, develop peer relationships and improve academic success. This online certificate is intended to prepare front-line educators, administrators, parents and organizations with the knowledge and skills to support students and institutions to thrive.
The Positive Education Certificate is a companion the Positive Psychology Certificate, and graduates can continue their studies with just one additional course.
The combination of theoretical and practical approaches to resilience, optimism and well-being provides you with the background and necessary tools to inform and embed the principles and practices of strength-based interventions to promote flourishing learning environments.
Through the exploration of individual and collective strengths, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of how to optimize your organizational culture to maximize your teaching and learning potential. This program will enable you to create implementation plans to accelerate the shift towards flourishing learning environments for administrators, teachers and students alike. This program is applicable to all learning environments from K-12 and post-secondary/higher education.

Through this certificate program, you will:
- Critically examine positive education principles, research and practices.
- Assess and apply various well-being building practices into educational environments.
- Identify and implement resources, activities and practices to support and sustain student and educator well-being.
- Design a capstone proposal that applies well-being interventions by promoting a strength-based culture using the practices and principles of positive psychology and positive education (related to your personal or professional interest).
The Positive Education Certificate is offered in a work-at-your-own pace, independent learning environment (different from the Positive Psychology Certificate cohort model), with a capstone project that provides an opportunity to personalize and apply your learning. You will have access to a positive education mentor to support you on your learning journey.
You may begin the certificate courses in January, May or September and have 16 weeks to complete the six weeks of coursework and the capstone project.
Part One
The first part in the Positive Education Certificate examines how to effectively use character strengths research and interventions to promote well-being and flourishing in education environments. You will begin to build and integrate learning towards your capstone proposal. An introduction to appreciative inquiry as an approach to organizational change will help support the facilitation and execution of your Capstone Proposal.
Part Two
The second part in the Positive Education Certificate will examine the influence of positive education on student and organizational outcomes. Participants will explore and develop ways of creatively integrating positive education strategies and interventions into their day-to-day routines. You will continue elaborating and finalizing your capstone proposal.
Part Three
In the final part of this certificate, participants continue to apply the learning from parts one and two with a focus on well-being and flourishing and focus on a capstone proposal and recorded presentation. Participants will be able to demonstrate how the science of positive psychology and positive education can be used as a model for well-being and flourishing of students and all school staff.

Pricing: $899
Positive Education modules are offered three times a year, typically near the beginning of regular academic terms (September, January, May). The Positive Psychology Certificate is a prerequisite to the Positive Education Certificate.
