Ildiko de Boer graduated from the University of Guelph with a PhD in Plant Agriculture, where she specialized in plant physiology. Prior to joining Laurier in 2014, Ildiko worked with researchers and industry in identifying and securing funding opportunities.
As manager of research facilitation, Ildiko provides leadership to our grants facilitators and supports the leadership team in developing and implementing key strategic initiatives and priority setting for major research funding.
John Paul Glaves graduated from the University of Alberta with a PhD in biochemistry, where his research focused on the structure of proteins involved in heart and prion diseases. Prior to joining Laurier in 2022, John Paul worked for the Government of Alberta in various roles, including director of policy, executive advisor and research grant coordinator.
As manager of research partnerships, John Paul advances Laurier’s research partnerships and identifies opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within and outside the institution. He also oversees the administration of Laurier’s interdisciplinary research centres and institutes, seeking ways to enhance their impact and engagement with research end users, including the development of meaningful research outputs.
Agnes Bonafe holds an MBA and a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property. She previously worked for the Philippine Space Agency as a project development officer and the University of the Philippines as an intellectual property and technology transfer officer.
Agnes is responsible for enhancing the development of strategic collaborative relationships between Laurier faculty and external organizations, including the private sector, non-governmental organizations and the public sector, in supporting the university’s research, intellectual property and technology transfer activities. Through a variety of commercial arrangements, including licensing and start-up company creation, she is also responsible for the identification, protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property developed by university faculty and other researchers.
Kate Cain received her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Toronto where she studied the impact of criminal labeling and punishment on the wrongly convicted. Before joining Laurier's Office of Research Services, she worked as a course instructor and research associate at Laurier and the University of Toronto.
Kate works one-on-one with faculty in the social sciences and humanities to identify funding opportunities and support the development of successful research grants. She reviews and provides feedback on grant applications, delivers workshops about grant opportunities and grant writing principles, and meets with faculty to develop multi-year research funding plans.

Meghan Fournie graduated from Western University with a Masters in Health Information Science. Prior to joining Laurier, Meghan worked with community partners to plan and coordinate research projects that aimed to improve services for vulnerable and marginalized groups.
As strategic research initiatives officer, Meghan is responsible for supporting the implementation of strategic research initiatives within the Office of Research Services.

Lara Fullenwieder received her doctorate in Cultural Studies from Queen’s University. Prior to joining Laurier's Office of Research Services, Lara was a research associate at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalization at Deakin University.
Lara works one-on-one with faculty at the Brantford campus to identify funding opportunities and support the development of successful research grants. This work includes reviewing and providing feedback on grant applications, delivering workshops about grant opportunities and grant writing principles, and meeting with faculty to develop multi-year research funding plans.

Heather Hager received her doctorate from the University of Regina in the field of ecology. She has worked in various capacities as research scientist, science writer and editor, most recently at University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University, prior to joining Laurier’s Office of Research Services.
Heather works one-on-one with faculty in the natural sciences to identify funding opportunities and support the development of successful research grants. This work includes reviewing and providing feedback on grant applications, delivering workshops about grant opportunities and grant writing principles, and meeting with faculty to develop multi-year research funding plans.

Allison McManus is a graduate of Laurier’s BSc Geography and MSc Integrative Biology programs. In the Office of Research Services, she is responsible for supporting a variety of strategic research initiatives under the vice-president: research portfolio.
Nick Skinner has a BAA in Media Studies and a diploma in Media Communications from the University of Guelph-Humber. Before coming to Laurier, he worked at Sunnybrook Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto.
As senior research communications strategist, Nick shares Laurier research with the wider community. His role spans the Office of Research Services and the External Relations department.
Ali Solhi holds a B.Sc in Psychology, an MA in Child and Youth Study, and a diploma in Film Production from Toronto Film School. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Health and Society at McMaster University.
With extensive experience in community and partnership development through previous roles at the Kitchener and Hamilton Public Libraries, Ali's work has focused on enhancing community ties and understanding the role of public libraries in fostering social capital and a sense of belonging among immigrants.
As research partnerships officer, Ali is dedicated to fostering strategic collaborations between academic researchers and community stakeholders across all Laurier campuses. He actively engages with the Laurier Hub for Community Solutions, connects with community organizations to forge meaningful research relationships, and seeks funding opportunities through the Tri-Agencies, Ontario Centre of Innovation, Mitacs and private sources to ensure sustainable and impactful partnerships.

Stephanie C. Wall holds a B.A. in Linguistics, Psychology and Indigenous Studies from McMaster University and an M.A. in Linguistics from Memorial University. She has over a decade of experience engaging in community development, and working with non-profit and community-led organizations.
As research partnerships officer, Stephanie is responsible for enhancing the development of strategic collaborative relationships between Laurier and community partners. She also works closely with the Laurier Hub for Community Solutions located on the Brantford campus, which acts as an intake point for groups seeking expertise to address community-based challenges and opportunities.

Nan Zhou received his doctorate in History from Queen’s University, where he studied materialism of the French Enlightenment and the interplay between medical, religious, political and philosophical thoughts in the late eighteenth century. Prior to joining Laurier, he worked as a translator, a research assistant in international politics and a compliance analyst.
As a research facilitator, Nan works one-on-one with faculty from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics and the departments of Psychology, Health Sciences and Kinesiology to identify funding opportunities and support the development of successful research grants. This work includes reviewing and providing feedback on grant applications, delivering workshops about grant opportunities and grant writing principles, and meeting with faculty to develop multi-year research funding plans.

The knowledge mobilization officer's primary role is to assist faculty with crafting and implementing knowledge mobilization plans for research projects. The knowledge mobilization officer also translates research into accessible formats for knowledge users and the public through such programs as the Research Chat podcast and Celebrating Laurier Achievements.
Una Glisic is a graduate of Laurier’s MA program in Psychology. She oversees the post-award services offered by the Office of Research Services, including compliance, strategic initiatives, research data and the newly created service of post-award support. Una also oversees the research ethics compliance and research information system portfolios.
Dinah Hoffman is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s HBSc Life Sciences program and Athabasca University’s MHS Health Studies program. She has a background in clinical research and research ethics.
As research compliance officer, Dinah coordinates Laurier’s Research Ethics Board and the Animal Care Committee. She also oversees the review and approval of applications for administrative research projects.

Samantha Moeller is a graduate of Laurier’s BSc Psychology Research Specialist program and Brock’s MA program in Psychology - Lifespan Development. She coordinates Laurier’s Research Ethics Board.
The manager of research finance provides leadership and direction to the research finance team at Laurier, overseeing the compliance and financial reporting functions for all externally funded research grants.
