Dec. 2, 2022
Print | PDFThe holidays are a joyful time traditionally filled with gatherings, celebrations and cheer, but for Canadian Blood Services the season can present challenges.
Historically, donor appointments during the month of December are difficult to fill, which threatens the inventory of blood products available in local hospitals.
To keep our communities healthy and strong, Wilfrid Laurier University invites faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university to make a blood donation in December. Donors can join Laurier’s Partners for Life team and have their donation counted as part of Laurier’s annual pledge to Canadian Blood Services.
Appointments can be booked at any Canadian Blood Services clinic in Canada by visiting blood.ca. Donate with colleagues, teammates, roommates or fellow alumni and tag @Laurier and @CanadianBloodServices in your donor selfies with the hashtag #LaurierCares.
“Donating during the holidays is a wonderful way to help our communities thrive, honour loved ones or give in a non-monetary way,” says Carleen Carroll, assistant vice-president of External Relations at Laurier. “Blood donations are life-changing gifts. Thank you to Laurier blood donors for your generous support.”
In Waterloo, the Canadian Blood Services clinic is located at 94 Bridgeport Rd. E – a short distance from Laurier’s Waterloo campus – which makes it easy to donate during lunch hour, after class or after practice. Book an appointment during the following times:
It is safe to donate blood during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visit the Canadian Blood Services website for details about screening measures and cleaning practices. If you are unsure if you are eligible to donate, please visit the Canadian Blood Services eligibility page or call 1-888-2-DONATE to speak with a nurse.
